Spring Branch W Super Neighborhood

2022-01-22 - Proposed Tax Credit Housing & Update on Spring Branch West Super Neighborhood

This email is being sent to civic associations, delegates and other members of the community who have been active in the super neighborhood in the past.  We're working from an old list so we need your help to please forward to your civic association board and ask that the information below be distributed to the neighborhood so as many people as possible have the opportunity to comment on the proposed development.

I'm forwarding an email from a developer about a proposed affordable senior housing development that would be situated on Westview at the Beltway.  The developer's email includes pictures of their affordable senior housing in East Downtown constructed in 2021 -- Campanile on Commerce.  Also attached is the formal written notice from the developer which provides information about how to submit comments to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) which is responsible for funds for tax credit housing.

In addition to the TDHCA, individuals as well as community organizations should also contact elected officials with comments on this project -- whether pro or con.

Regarding Spring Branch West Super Neighborhood, I have to say at this point that we are in desperate need of participation in the form of officers and active delegates.  We haven't met in two years (thanks to COVID), and my work schedule really does not allow for me to be involved at this time.  Also, we have operated for years without a full complement of officers.  Ed Browne (who has moved out of the neighborhood) and I have served for many years as President and Vice President, alternating back and forth.  My wife has worked behind the scenes sending emails, setting agendas and securing speakers but we've not had an official secretary since January 2016.

If anyone is willing to pick up the torch and keep our super neighborhood council going, I will turn over all the paper files and electronic files and give whatever support I can to get you started; however, I cannot serve in any official capacity.

Regards,

Jeff,

Good afternoon and Happy New Year!

My name is Les Kilday with Kilday Operating LLC.  We are a local, family-owned apartment developer specializing in affordable elderly (age 55+) developments.  We have a site under contract within the Spring Branch West Super Neighborhood.  The location is 1212 W. Sam Houston Pkwy N.  It is a 1.7 acre tract on Westview just behind the Bucky’s convenience store.  Our use would be a podium-style, 90-120 unit elderly development.  We have discussed this development with CM Peck and she encouraged us to reach out to the Super Neighborhood.  We would like to meet at your convenience to discuss our proposed development.

Attached are our resumes and pictures of our most recent elderly development east of downtown, Campanile on Commerce, located at 2929 Commerce St.

Thanks,
Les
